๐Ÿ  Living Arrangements

Where will I live? You will live in a Host Home โ€” a private residence with a trained provider who offers personalized care and support.

Will I have my own bedroom? Yes. Every individual is guaranteed their own private bedroom. You may share a bathroom.

Can my bedroom be in a basement? Yes, if you are able to navigate stairs and the space is finished, furnished, and has egress windows for safety.

Can I bring my own bedroom furnishings? Yes, most individuals bring their own bedroom furnishings.

Can I have pets in the home? Your Host Home Provider may have pets. This is taken into account during the matching process.

Can there be children in the home? Your Host Home Provider may have children. Their ages are listed on the provider’s application and considered during placement.


๐Ÿค Matching & Placement

How are placements decided? Placements are based on compatibility, your preferences, your family’s preferences, and team input. We prioritize long-term, stable matches.

How long does placement take? Timelines vary. Finding the right match takes time, and we are committed to getting it right.

What is Respite care? Respite is temporary, short-term care provided when your regular Host Home Provider is unavailable โ€” such as during a vacation, illness, or training.


๐Ÿ’ฐ Finances & Expenses

Who pays for my clothes, medications, groceries, and entertainment? Yourself and you receive a monthly personal allowance for personal needs. Some expenses are covered by Medicare/Medicaid, and others may be covered by your Host Home Provider.

What is a Day Program? Day Programs are Medicaid-funded services based on your individual needs. Your support team will help you choose the right program, which can take up to 30 days to arrange.

Who is on my support team? Your support team includes your Host Home Provider, Colorado Loving Care staff, and other service professionals involved in your care.

Where do referrals come from? Colorado Loving Care primarily receives referrals through Community Center Boards in the Denver Metro Area and from private pay clients.

๐Ÿ  Home & Household

Can I have children in the home? Yes. Please list the ages of your children on your application.

Can I have pets in the home? Yes. Please specify the type and number of pets, as this may affect placement options.

How many individuals can I serve? Up to 3 full-time clients.

Do I need to furnish the client’s bedroom? Most clients bring their own furnishings, but having a spare bed can help you provide Respite while awaiting a permanent placement.


๐Ÿ“‹ Requirements & Training

What certifications do I need?

  • First Aid/CPR โ€” Any American Red Cross certified program
  • QMAP (Medication Certification) โ€” Accepted from other agencies if obtained within the past 12 months
  • Basic Orientation โ€” Covers I/DD services, state regulations, and care requirements; available through Colorado Loving Care
  • Home Inspection โ€” Required before placement
  • Additional Training โ€” May be required based on your client’s specific needs

Who needs a background check? Anyone over 18 living in the home. Colorado Loving Care conducts this free of charge through CAPS and CBI.

Do I need to live in Colorado? Yes โ€” Colorado Loving Care operates exclusively in Colorado.

Must I own a computer? Yes. You are required to have a computer and internet access for training and tracking client care.

Do I need Professional Liability Insurance? Yes. Once a client is placed, you are required to carry Professional Liability Insurance as an independent contractor.


โฑ๏ธ Placement Process

How long does placement take? It varies based on compatibility, client and family preferences, and matching. We prioritize long-term, stable placements.

What can I do to speed up placement?

  • Email photos and a description of your home and family to our team
  • Keep your certifications current
  • Stay in regular contact via email
  • Note: Wheelchair-accessible homes and homes in certain counties are in high demand

Do I have to wait for a referral? Generally yes, but placements from our existing client pool are occasionally available. Referrals primarily come from Community Center Boards in the Denver Metro Area.


๐Ÿ’ฐ Pay & Finances

How much will I get paid? Rates are based on state funding and each client’s individual needs assessment. Contact our Intake Department for specifics.

How much do I get paid for Respite? Respite rates are negotiated directly between the Host Home Provider and the Respite Provider.

Who pays for the client’s expenses? Clients receive a monthly personal allowance. Some costs are covered by Medicare/Medicaid; others are the Host Home Provider’s responsibility.

What is Respite? Short-term relief care for you as a provider โ€” for example, during a vacation, illness, or training.

Can I provide Respite while on the placement waitlist? Yes, as long as your home is ready and your certifications are current.

Can I apply with other agencies? Yes.

Can I have a client from a different agency in my home? Yes, but please notify us before their move-in date, especially if you already have one of our clients placed with you.
